Re: One Day for Human Rights

In reply to One Day for Human Rights on GUI Life

It makes no sense to me to talk about human rights. It has nothing to do with rights. It has everything to do with human value. It's not about "rights" (law) its about "right" (morality). A human being is never a means to an end.
In other words: I agree with you totally.

It is what it is.

It is what it is.
It was what it was.
But it isn't what it isn't.
Because it is what it is.

It could have been what it could have been.
It should have been what it should have been.
But it isn't what it isn't.
Because it is what it is.

It might have been what it might have been.
It must be what it must be.
But it isn't what it isn't.
Because it is what it is.

It shouldn't be what it shouldn't be.
It must not be what it must not be.
It can't be what it can't be.
It isn't what it isn't.

It is what it is.

Daily ADHD: My Twitter Character Sheet

I was a huge fan of Dungeons and Dragons back in the day. I spent entirely to much money and invested entirely to much of my life in that game. If you ever played the game then you know that you haven't played the game until you create your own character sheet. Most built a computer program to generate them. I was a true devote. I had a program as well as a word doc for my sheets.

I am now a social media/networking junkie. I belong to a number of sites: Add Me

One of my favorites is Twitter. I use twitter for all kinds of stuff. But now there are a number of attributes and rankings that one can measure ones twitter account against. Using some of these sites I can gather up all my twitter attributes and create my twitter character sheet:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Name: James Herbert     Class: Instructor Subclass: College

Bio: I am an instructor at Fountainhead College of technology.

Howard: Zachary's duck

Zachary had a duck follow him home about 2 months ago. We call the duck Howard which is a intentional reference to a cheesy eighty's movie. The duck has grown since we brought it home. I was concerned that it was going to be a goose but I believe it is just going to be a big white duck. Maybe I am just hoping.

He loves that ole duck

The duck has lived with us so long I believe that it thinks it is a dog. It has no problem harassing our Cocker Spaniel and he gives our Schnoodle a rough time to go too. He has his own pen that he comes in and out of as he chooses. Mostly he hangs around the sliding glass door so he can watch the dogs we have in the house. I swear the thinks he is a dog.

It still has some yellow on it so it has some more growing to do. I just hope it doesn't get much bigger.

Daily ADHD: Twitter Grade

From the Twitter Grader twitter feed

@alfredtwo : Yes, there was an update to the algorithm this past weekend. Still cranking through the rescoring process. 250,000+ users!

I have re-evaluated my Twitter Grade . As of this post I have an 87

What does this mean?

  • It means the only life I have is a social networking life.
  • I spend too much time behind a computer.
  • I couldn't tell you what the weather has been like in the last 3 weeks...

No phone calls. Just send money.

RE: If You Do Not Learn From History

In reply to If You Do Not Learn From History

"But democracy is great. Freedom is wonderful. Every body should participate in a free democracy, Whether they like it or not!

Besides, we are not a democracy. Democracy is the concepet where everyone votes/must vote on everything. Democracy is a bad plan. Ask Socrates. Oh wait, he's dead. See the Apology

We are a republic. If not for that fine distinction we would have suffered as did Brutus. Convinced that the death of Caeser was what was best for the people he killed his best friend. "Et Tu Brute?"

"But Brutus says he was ambitious. And Brutus is an honorable man" -Mark Antony

Thus the mob turned on Brutus. Thus is the plight of democracy.

Zacharys Tooth Surgery

Zachary had to have a crown put on one of his teeth today. He also ended up needing to additional fillings. We originally thought he might need 2 crowns but the other turned out not to be so bad. We didn't know exactly whether or not the other tooth would need a crown because Zachary doesn't care much for dentist. He panics when he has to lay down.

I appreciate the support from the #FCTMSNetworking class this morning. I appreciate their understanding. I thought I could go to work while he was having that done. It was his first time under anesteshia and I was more overwhelemed than I thought.

He came out ok. Actually I think he did better than I did. It is tough to see your son go into a situation like that and know that there is nothing you can do about it. Powerlessness is not a pretty feeling.

Links and Things

Todays link and thing is twitterfeed. Twitterfeed gathers feeds from your blog or any other RSS or Atom feed directly to your twitter account. I have been looking for a way to post from my blog to my twitter account. I hope this is it
It has its good and bad. I like that it uses openID for authentication. It has several methods for URL shortening. My favorite tool Cli.gs is not an option. I like what it can do for my blog. I can see how this can be used for twitter spam and twittering junk.

This post is my first attempt at twitterfeed. We’ll see how it goes.

Posterous Users: Twitter cannot post to Posterous.

I have no friends

I am a new user at the beta for AllKnox.com. I have just created my profile and it says "James has no friends".

I find this mildly humorous. If I don't have any contacts in all of these social networks then I don't have any friends. ;)

I belong to several social networks as I research which web 2.0 tools are useful in the online college experience. When I create my portfolio on each network it lets me know I have no friends.

It's enough to give a guy a complex. It's a vicious cycle. I join a social network to find friends and I find I have no friends. I join another then another and then another. They all tell me I have no friends.

Now I belong to 20+ social networks which means I have 20+ confirmations that I have no friends.

Is it really that bad?
*Sigh*
I think I'll just take my medication and go to bed now.
